Al Adan Hospital
A Legacy of Care. A Future of Innovation.
Our history
For more than four decades, Al Adan Hospital has stood as one of the cornerstones of Kuwait's public healthcare system, serving generations of patients while continuously evolving to meet the changing needs of the communities it serves.
Al Adan Hospital began providing clinical services in 1980 and was officially inaugurated in 1981 as a major general hospital within Kuwait's Ministry of Health. From its earliest years, the hospital brought together the core disciplines of modern hospital medicine, with Internal Medicine established as one of its principal clinical departments from the very beginning.

What began as a regional general hospital has since grown into a large and increasingly sophisticated medical campus, providing comprehensive secondary and tertiary healthcare to a substantial population across southern Kuwait. Over the decades, its services have expanded considerably, supported by the development of specialized clinical units, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities, critical care services, multidisciplinary clinics, and dedicated specialty centres.
This evolution continues today. Al Adan is undergoing one of the most significant periods of development in its history, with a major expansion of the medical district designed to complement and enhance the existing hospital. The development includes new facilities for women and children, surgery and central services, physical medicine and rehabilitation, healthcare administration, strategic medical storage and supporting infrastructure. Together, these developments represent a major investment in the future of healthcare delivery and position the Al Adan medical campus for a new generation of highly specialized, integrated patient care.
Internal Medicine: At the Heart of Al Adan
Throughout this journey, the Department of Internal Medicine has remained central to the hospital's clinical, academic and professional development.
From one of Al Adan's original departments, it has evolved into a broad multidisciplinary service encompassing general medicine and multiple medical subspecialties, with an increasing emphasis on specialized care, multidisciplinary collaboration, patient safety, research and evidence-based practice.
Recent years have seen significant expansion in specialized services, including clinical hematology, stroke and movement disorders, specialized neurology, obesity and weight disorders, gastroenterology and day-care services. The department has also contributed to national initiatives such as colorectal cancer screening, while introducing clinical guidelines, patient-safety protocols and greater integration of digital systems into everyday clinical practice.
Beyond patient care, education and professional development remain fundamental to the department's mission. Through clinical teaching, research, multidisciplinary collaboration and continuing medical education, Al Adan seeks not only to deliver excellent care today, but also to contribute to the future of medicine in Kuwait.
The Adan Internal Medicine Conference represents a natural extension of this vision—bringing together clinicians, researchers and healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge, explore innovation and translate scientific advances into better patient care.
As Al Adan enters its next chapter, its ambition extends beyond expanding facilities and services. It is to build an environment where clinical excellence, education, research, innovation and compassionate care exist side by side.
Four decades of service.A growing legacy of excellence.A future defined by innovation.
